Been away for awhile - pity life sometimes interferes with darts - now looking for a little feedback.  Thoughts on a southern or central California darts league with tournaments three times a month and prize money:  Can it work?  Would it stimulate steel tip play?  What kind of format - 501?  Play once a month in Ventura, once a month in Orange County, once a month in LA?  Men and women?  Look forward to hearing from one and all.

Darts competitions and teams were common on SOCAL ten years ago, but the real, steel tipped dart boards were removed from many clubs and bars.

To achieve what you suggest, we need a strong movement to bring them back - and then we can have leagues that challenge Ventura County versus LA and Orange County. this must start and be nurtured be the remaining pubs that have steel tips!

Really appreciate your comment; sorry, to have been so long in replying - been out of town.  I totally agree with the sentiment. I'm new to the game but have already seen it waning in just the last two years. Will continue to solicit your input if that's okay.

        Thanks again.

DA - I'm with you. I'd like to put together a weekly league/tournament in the Hollywood/Westside area. We usually shoot at the Cat & Fiddle Tuesdays and the King's Head in Santa Monica on Thursdays. Traveling to OC and Ventura seems a bit far, though.

Format is usually blind draw, best of 3 legs - 1 leg cricket, 1 leg 501, final leg/game decided by cork.

Would be happy to put something together with you and possibly the So Cal Darts Assn - http://www.socaldarts.com/.

BTW - great website and very informative. Thank you!

Went to highschool in Canada and competed in youth darts with the local Canadian Legion. Why is it so hard to find steel-tip clubs in LA? Am I just not looking in the right places? Can't really do bars because of age but I really miss league play and wish there was a place for youth darts closer than Encino. I would definitely enter a local tournament or league in the downtown/Hollywood area.

I apologize for not having gotten back to you sooner.  I believe The Fox and Hounds on Ventura is a pretty friendly place for younger darts players as would be The Cat & Fiddle on Sunset (particularly if you go doing afternoon hours).  Both have bars but they also have restaurants.  The Buchanan Arms in Burbank often has families with young ones so I'm sure that would be another good place.  Still, looking to get a tournament going but don't see that happening until fall.  Check back or stay in touch for further details on that.
